Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #246

This historic serial has run on and off in the last 21 years of the Broad Ripple Gazette. The intention is to share the history of Broad Ripple, help people find their ancestors in the text, and to complete the transcriptions of these important early documents.
The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. I will try to include street name changes, such as: Shelby Street became 63rd, then Broad Ripple Avenue, Morgan Street is now Guilford, North is now 64th, Hancock is now Westfield, Light Ave is College. The bond was read and approved as signed + also the bond of Frank E. Watts as Town Treasurer was approved. + also the bond of Fletcher Johnson as Town Clerk was approved + also the bond of Thomas Metsger as Town Marshall was also approved.
No further business before the board it adjourned

The ordinance relating to dogs + owning dogs requiring a license + tag + penalty for violation of ordinance was upon 3rd reading put upon it passage which resulted as follows: Roll called + members voted as follows
Millard Eaton of 1st ward "voted" "Yes"
George Sheets " 2nd " " "Yes"
B. F. Osborn " 3rd " " "Yes"
All members voted in the affirmative to ordinance
Was passed + ordered to be posted in a prominent place in each ward.
An ordinance was introduced by the Town Trustee George Sheets if the 2nd Ward to increase the pay of all Town officers to take effect on January 1st 1910.
The Town Trustees to receive $30. per year. The Town Treasurer $30. per year. The Town Clerk $40. per year. The Town Marshall $40. per month.
The above ordinance was read + referred to a committee of Millard Eaton and George Sheets to report on same on Thursday evening when there will be a special meeting to act on same.
No further business appearing board adjourned
