Letters to the Editor - Cousins explained
posted: Sept. 05, 2024
Note to our readers: Letters to the Editor are the opinions of our readers and not necessarily those of this paper.
In the article about the check from the Broad Ripple State Bank you refer to a first cousin, three times removed, and a third cousin, once removed. Can you be more specific about these relationships?
Just curious about this!
Thanks,
Ann Dettwiler
Hi Ann,
I am not an expert in the removed cousins field, but here are the relationship pages that show the connections to those mentioned in the last issue.
"Removed" refers to how many generations above or below you the other person is in your tree.
As for the cousin part, a third cousin is connected to you by the same great great grandparents.
In answering your letter, I now see that the
Broad Ripple State Bank check, from Mary Dawson Rinker's collection, was that of her grandfather!
Thanks for reading,
