The 13-year-old boy in me
The poem written below is from my perspective as the 13-year-old Chip Pruitt growing up in Eastern Kentucky.
The 13 yr. old boy in me
the thirteen-year-old
boy in me
still digs new edition
and girls
and the cross-over-dribble
the thirteen-yr.-old
boy in me
thinks that
i am a big success
the world may see
a severely mentally ill poet
and think what a
horrible waste
of a human life
but the 13 yr. old boy
in me
says "You have surrounded
your life with revolutionaries,
and hippies, and artists,
and funny women, and
people who believe in
Love and Freedom. I
could not be more proud."
but
the 13 yr. old
boy in me
thinks that i
should go to
the basketball courts
and break down
some young punk
with my
cross-over-dribble
The 13 yr. old
boy in me
makes the
45 yr. old
boy in me
laugh
