Some Butler Tarkington residents want the floodwall finished after all
Some Butler Tarkington residents have organized in favor of completing the flood wall in contrast to others in the neighborhood who favor an alternative plan after the city recently changed its view. A reader wrote to the Mayor:
"...after exhaustive study and thoughtful consideration, we are strongly in favor of the expeditious completion of the Westfield Alignment of the Indianapolis North Flood Damage Reduction Project (the "Project").
By now, we trust you should have received the correspondence issued on behalf of the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association ("BTNA") by BTNA president, Clark Kirkman (a copy of which can be found at http://butlertarkington.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/BTNA-Feb-2016-Letter-to-Mayor-Hogsett.pdf). . . . . you must understand that Butler-Tarkington is a diverse neighborhood of competing interests.
Despite the formal resolutions of the BTNA (who have made an honest, good-faith effort to represent the competing interests of the neighborhood), it is imperative that you hear the voices of the residents who live in the floodplain and whose lives will be directly affected by the Project. . . Please understand that we are not petitioning for unattainable, ideological social change. We simply request that you honor the well-reasoned decision of the Ballard administration and proceed with the Project to save our neighborhood. More at finishthefloodwall.org"

Don't miss the early spring wild flowers at Holliday and Marott Parks
The spring wild flowers are blooming including the skunk cabbage and more. The trout lilies, blood roots, and other "spring ephemerals" will be out soon at my two favorite parks, Marott and Holliday. Don't miss the show which lasts only until the leaves come out on the trees. (Correction: You can't read more about the witch hazel in Wildflowers of Holliday Park, as Norma Wallman informs me her book doesn't not cover this shrub. She only has flowers in her book. My last column had a picture of the shrub in bloom.)
