• Congratulations to Broad Ripple High School senior Kelsi Graham, who has won a first place award from the Columbia University Gold Circle Awards for 2012. Her personal opinion piece, Why the negativity, Dr. White? was published in the Riparian Online - www.riparianonline.org.
• Congratulations Jordan Mather-Licht, Indiana's State Champion in Poetry Out Loud. Jordan's victory is the 4th state championship for Broad Ripple out of six total competitions! As state champ, Jordan will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC for the national competition. Congrats again, Jordan!
• Congratulations to the Broad Ripple Magnet H.S. String Ensemble for earning a GOLD at State ISSMA Competition! You were absolutely awesome!! Congratulations also to Nigel Leitzell and Kieryn Bowman for earning GOLD! We are so proud of all of you!!
• Nigel Leitzell also represented BRHS in the 2012 IHSSA Boys Diving Sectionals at Lawrence North High School. Nigel's mother is full of praise for the coaches and encourages other students to consider trying swimming or diving next year!
• Nigel's mother also gives a big shout out to all the teachers involved in the instrumental music program and how much they help their students!
• An exciting event that took place in our Orchestra room on Tuesday, February 21. We hosted the first annual Dr. Samuel W. Siurua Memorial Violin Competition which was open to all violinists in IPS who were qualified to participate. Two of our own BRMHS violinists were qualified to participate - Alexis Sanford and Kieryn Bowman. The prize for the Gold Certificate winner was a brand new violin, case and bow! After performances of their concertos, sight reading and interview questions from the judges, it was decided that Kieryn Bowman was the Gold Certificate winner with Alexis Sanford as the Silver Certificate winner! Kieryn received the brand new violin as her prize. Alexis received a newly refurbished violin as well!
