Fringe Fest in Mass Ave Cultural District - by Heidi Huff
posted: Aug. 29, 2008

by Heidi Huff

The Fringe Festival has "Moved." Yes, the shows still go on in the Theatre District on and around Mass Ave. But this year the Festival has "Moved," an original work performed by The (Re)Collective Company. The Company is comprised of artists from all areas of experience. Dancers, drummers, singers, cellists and even beatboxers find their groove.
The dance element showcased the talents of Megan Mills, Jenny Thomas, Jacklyn Virgin, and Sarah Zeta Zuckerman. The musical score was created by Kate Lamont, Helger Oomkes, Grover Parido, TJ Reynolds, and Tim Williams. Each piece took all members into account, resulting in a conglomeration of talent and ideas. For example, some of the choreography was created for existing music while some of the music was actually written around the choreography.
"Moved" examines the process of an artist, and how their medium inspires them.
Through the course of the show the motivation for the moves and music came from nearly as many backgrounds as the artists themselves. From Hip-Hop to Yoga and African to Classical this piece pieces it all together.
The show can still be seen at the American Cabaret Theatre on Friday, August 29th at 9; Saturday, August 30th at 6; Sunday August 31st at 7:30. As with all of Fringe, no late comers will be admitted so please be on time!
Tickets are $10 (cash only) and may be purchased at the door beginning thirty minutes before show time. You will also need to make a one time purchase of a "backer button" to attend any and all Fringe shows. The buttons feature the art of Emma Overman and have many icons to choose from. The ticket fee goes directly to the performers while the button supports the Festival itself.
