An old favorite is back! The Tin Star tenderloin is now available at Pizza King, located at Broad Ripple Avenue and Evanston.

Pizza King owner Marcus Brunell recalls playing street hockey behind Tin Star when he was a kid. Marcus bought the location from Tin Star owner John Bruno four years ago. Tin Star had been a local favorite for 35 years. The restaurant featured jail cells in the basement. Customers were "locked" in to their booths by jail bar doors.

Marcus's brother Carl Truby is the restaurant manager. The brothers asked Bruno if they could get the recipe for the Tin Star tenderloin and he said yes. They were able to get the buns from the same bread supplier that the Tin Star used.

Marcus said that John Bruno's father was been in twice a week since they started serving the tenderloin sandwich. "He says they are perfect."

I asked about another of my favorites at the old Tin Star, the breaded mushrooms. Carl said that the mushrooms and onion rings will join the Pizza King menu. "First, we wanted to make sure we got the tenderloins right," added Marcus about the timing of the menu additions.

Pizza King also offers fundraising opportunities and team discounts. Teams pass out flyers announcing the Pizza King fundraising. When someone orders food, either at the restaurant or for delivery, they simply mention that they are part of a particular team or group. Pizza King tracks the purchase via computer, which tallies the fundraising amounts for each group.
