Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #259

This historic serial has run on and off in the last 22 years of the Broad Ripple Gazette. The intention is to share the history of Broad Ripple, help people find their ancestors in the text, and to complete the transcriptions of these important early documents.
The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. I will try to include street name changes, such as: Shelby Street became 63rd, then Broad Ripple Avenue, Morgan Street is now Guilford, North is now 64th, Hancock is now Westfield, Light Ave is College. Health Officer suggests new health ordinance
The Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple met in regular session Tuesday evening Jan 3 - 1911. All members being present. Minutes of previous regular and special. Meetings were read and approved.
Report of Town Officers. Health Officer only officer reporting, suggested we have an improved and amended health ordinance.
Improvement Resolution No. 18 was adopted on second reading, for improvement of Ashland Ave. from 60th St. to 61st St.
Bond Ordinance was passed on first and second reading, providing for the issuance of bonds for the payment of Barrett assessments, for sidewalk and curb construction work on both sides of Broadway St from 60th to 62nd St.; Both sides of 60th St. from College Ave. to Broadway St.: Both sides of 61st St. from Morgan St. to College Ave. in the Town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana.
Whereas an emergency existed for the immediate taking effect of this resolution, it was resolved the same should be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
By a majority vote, Dr Hesler was chosen Pres-dent of the Board for the year 1911.
Bills were allowed amounting to $194.37.
No further business coming before the Board. They stood adjourned until next regular meeting night, Tuesday evening Feb 7 - 1911

The Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple met in regular session Tuesday evening, February 7, 1911, All members being present. Period
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved.
The meeting proceeded with introduction of Improvement Resolution number 19 for improvement of Jackson Street from North St. to Light St. in the Town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana, by grading the roadway and constructing concrete sidewalks, and concrete curb. On both sides of said street and declaring an emergency.
Resolution was duly passed upon its reading and was declared in full force from and after its passage.
A resolution was introduced to extend the boundaries of the Town of Broad Ripple, Marion County, Indiana, without petition and declaring an emergency by accepting the following described territory.
Beginning at the N.E. corner of Lot 149 in Lights Bellevue Addition and running South with the West line of Broadway 4040 ft to the South line of 52nd St. in said subdivision; Thence west along the South line of 52nd St. 544.77 to the east line of Central Ave.: thence north along the E line of Central Ave. 4044.9 feet to the South line of 58th St. thence east along the South line of 58th St. 544.77 feet to the point of beginning.
Resolution was duly passed upon its reading and was declared in full force from and after its passage.
Motion was made by Mr. Kaiser, seconded and passed employing Emsley W Johnson as Town Attorney for 1911, at a salary of $50.00 per year, payable semi-annually.
Bills were allowed amounting to $94.02
No further business coming before the board they stood adjourned
