Historic Ad - Carter's Market
posted: Jul. 30, 2026
This ad for Carter's Market ran back in 1949 (that's why it is in rough shape!). It is from a newspaper in the Vernon Earle collection. Vernon was BRHS Class of 1943 and contributed much Broad Ripple history to the cause.
Carter's was a chicken market on the southwest corner of Westfield and Guilford. The building is still there and still said Carter Building until a few years ago. Today it is home to Dad's Kitchen, 6336 Guilford Avenue [G4 on
map].
Note: The ad mentions "Delicious Fries" but since it says "dressed free" (meaning defeathering and such) I think they are referring to fryer chickens.
Here's a fun look back of the Carter Building in 2004 when Ben & Jerry's was there!
