The Indianapolis Marion County Land Use Plan, one of the six elements of The Comprehensive Plan for Indianapolis and Marion County, promotes orderly future development through balanced land uses via two components. The Land Use Map, which identifies land use typology via location, and the Pattern Book, guidelines for each land use typology. The Marion County Land Use Plan is being updated to integrate the twenty specific area plans, ease and clarity of use, and provide for current needs while looking toward the future.
