Indianapolis Vision Zero Taskforce to adopt Action Plan
posted: Dec. 11, 2025

Indianapolis stands on the cusp of a historic milestone in its commitment to safer streets. The Indianapolis Vision Zero Taskforce, led by City-County Councilor John Barth, will convene to adopt the City's first-ever Vision Zero Action Plan. A comprehensive, data-driven framework designed to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2035.
This plan is the result of more than a year of rigorous work, deep collaboration, and honest conversations about how Indianapolis designs, plans, and prioritizes safety on its streets. City staff, members of the City-County Council, policy experts, community members, and consultants at Burgess & Niple have worked hand-in-hand to analyze crash data, gather public input, and craft strategies that protect people walking, biking, driving, and using public transit.
"The Taskforce extends sincere gratitude to the hundreds of residents who shaped this plan through surveys, public meetings, and neighborhood-level feedback. Their lived experiences and perspectives are central to the priorities outlined in the Action Plan. We also thank the dedicated staff and partners whose expertise helped guide this work forward," said Chairman John Barth.
The Vision Zero Action Plan is not the end of the journey, but the beginning. The Taskforce is committed to ensuring this plan delivers measurable improvements so that every resident has safer streets.
Indianapolis deserves a transportation system where no serious injury or fatality is considered acceptable or inevitable. Today, we move forward committed to making that vision a reality.
The final Vision Zero Action Plan is now online for public viewing and can be found here.
Vision Zero is a City-County wide commitment to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries. By rethinking how we design, use, and share our streets, we aim to create an environment where safety is a priority for all-whether you're walking, biking, driving, or using public transit.
