Dear editor, considering all the discussion around the pending College Avenue sculpture I thought a short history of broad Ripple would be helpful.

A Short History of Broad Ripple

Gone are the Delaware, Shawnee and the Pot O Wato Me.

Irish ditch diggers paid in grog.

Depression era gangsters in their Desperate Hours.

Going All the Way down to the Bulldog and the Red Key.

Stoner hippies stub their toes on garbage cans

and Raucous Punks break the sound barrier.

Late night, saloons sell whiskey to drunk people

While the Glocks blazes away down on Main Street.

And So It Goes.

The burning man towers over Broad Ripple.

A beacon for tech Bros in million dollar

Winnebagoes ?

Or a benevolent Borg, who knows that Resistance is Futile.

Give us some art, our daily bread, a gift of love, which we are about to receive in memories name amen.

Like it or not.

Burning man

soars over the ripple, soft and broad.

Long may he Reign

If they just

Cut off

20 feet.
