Random Rippling - DMD Meeting at BR Park
posted: Jul. 03, 2025
On June 24, 2025, The Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development (DMD) held a public session for Washington Township land use planning at the Broad Ripple Park Family Center as 1550 Broad Ripple Avenue [H11 on
map].
There was confusion about the subject of the meeting as emails had been circulated indicating the meeting was about the Broad Ripple Park Master Plan. This was not the case. The Broad Ripple Park Master Plan conducted its public input planning meetings back in 2018. [See Broad Ripple Gazette
coverage of that process.]
This meeting was not for IndyParks, but for DMD to get ideas from the public on what kinds of spaces in Washington Township should be preserved and what should be changed. After a short presentation, the attendees broke into groups with a large maps of Washington Township. Working as teams, stickers were placed on the maps indicating things to keep and things to grow, such as green space, public-use, high-density housing and retail/business developments of various scales. DMD is conducting meetings like this one all around the county. The data will help it to draft a new plan for Marion County.
In early 2026, DMD plans to schedule opportunities for the public to provide feedback on the final draft of the newly revised plan. For more information about the Comprehensive Plan update, please email
