Random Rippling - Famed Surfer and Model Buzzy Kerbox
posted: Oct. 03, 2024
When Bruce Buchanan invited me to his cousin's talk on surfing I decided to go to take some pictures and head out early, as I don't know anything about surfing. Turned out it was such an interesting life story that I stayed for the whole talk. It was amazing.
The Kerbox family moved from Indy to Hawaii when Buzzy was young. He developed into a world-class surfer through (in his words) his "Average Skill, Phenomenal Will". Buzzy helped to create tow-in surfing and went on to win many championships around the world. Vogue Magazine saw a picture of him and asked the kid with two chipped front teeth to do a photo shoot with them. That turned into a 35 year career in modeling for magazines and ads. The story of perseverance would be a good one for Indy's school children. Maybe we can get him back sometime for a longer run.
The September talk was held at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 Meridian Street [MM20 on
