Historic Ad - Play in Broad Ripple
posted: Jun. 20, 2024
The ad for multiple stores ran in 1942. It was a general neighborhood promotion with a map showing where the advertisers are located.
The ads include:
- The Inn, a restaurant run by Tom Yantis, at 705 E. 63rd Street (now Broad Ripple Avenue). Seven years later this corner was razed to make way for the new G.C. Murphy Co. dime store. Hot Box Pizza and The Avenue Coffeehouse occupy the Murphy's building today.
- New Ripple Tavern at 924 Riviera Drive (Westfield Boulevard today). Its specialty was fried turtle! Today, this location is The Bungalow.
- Green City Boathouse at 1202 E. 63rd Street (now Broad Ripple Avenue). This is where Weaver's Lawn and Garden was for years.
- Broad Ripple Bowl at 1010 E. 63rd Street (now Broad Ripple Avenue). This is where McDonald's west parking lot is today.
- Broad Ripple Pool at 1400 E. 62nd Street (now Broad Ripple Avenue). The pool was on the northwest section of Broad Ripple Park. It is grass today.
