Indy DPW Prepares For Phase Two Of Broad Ripple Avenue Street Improvements
posted: Mar. 23, 2023

After extensive public engagement, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) is preparing for Phase Two of Broad Ripple Avenue construction. Contractors will mobilize the week of April 3 with the roadway closing from College Avenue through Guilford Avenue. Similar to Phase 1, the avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic, and construction fences will be erected. Sidewalks will remain open to maintain pedestrian access to local businesses.
Phase Two construction will lay new stormwater infrastructure under the avenue to alleviate historic flooding in the area and improve pedestrian facilities along the corridor. Once work in the roadway is completed, the street will reopen for pedestrian traffic as crews begin sidewalk improvements. Indy DPW estimates Broad Ripple Avenue will completely reopen in August 2023 with work occurring on side streets afterward to install additional stormwater pipes and inlets.
Following the completion of the project, Broad Ripple Avenue will feature more than $6 million of street improvements including upgraded drainage facilities, a multi-use trail from the Monon Trail to Primrose Avenue, raised crosswalks at the Monon crossing and Carrollton Ave, widened sidewalks, and improved street lighting.
Indy DPW, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) continue to work together to ensure that safety of Broad Ripple residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the closure of Broad Ripple Avenue.
Construction updates will be shared via local newsletters, and weekly construction updates along with additional project details will be available at https://www.indy.gov/activity/broad-ripple-avenue-improvements.
