Bundle up and head down to Indy's newest holiday tradition, the Ice Rink at Holliday Park presented by Merchants Bank of Indiana, opening Friday, Nov. 25 and going through Sunday, Jan. 29.
Located in the heart of Holliday Park (6363 Spring Mill Rd.), the Ice Rink kicks off a new family-friendly, seasonal holiday experience for Indy residents. The outdoor, 60-by-120 foot rink can hold 300 guests per session, as skaters are fully immersed in the beautiful scenery and the park's historic Ruins lit up in the background provide a snow globe-like experience for visitors.
The rink itself will be named after the late Dr. Michael Turner, who made the Ice Rink his final project, as he had the original idea and vision of adding a new winter experience for Indianapolis.
"Holliday Park has always been a serene, educational and welcoming place to bring people face-to-face with the natural beauty of our community," said Adam Barnes, executive director of the Holliday Park Foundation. "We're thrilled that the Ice Rink at Holliday Park can provide a new annual tradition to Indy's holiday season, bringing people together in a transformative space in our park. It's an honor to give back to Marion County with an accessible, outdoor, immersive experience throughout the next few months."
The Holliday Park Foundation also enacted the Skate It Forward program, which will provide outreach to under-resourced communities through sponsorships. The program will give away free tickets to organizations to make it affordable and easy for everyone to get on the ice. Interested parties can learn more about the Skate It Forward sponsorship and other sponsorship opportunities here.
The Ice Rink at Holliday Park will be open daily and closed on Christmas Day (Saturday, Dec. 25). A complete schedule of specific open times throughout the season can be found here. Throughout the week, the Ice Rink will also conduct skating lessons (Saturday mornings 9:30-11 a.m.), adult/children classes and private freestyle skates. Times of these additional events also vary by date.
Classic concessions such as hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, hot chocolate and more will be available for purchase all season long. A local beer and wine truck will be available for guests 21+ on Friday and Saturday nights from 6-9 p.m. Guests can also utilize the indoor warming area and restrooms inside the Nature Center.
Tickets for ages five and up are $13 online and at the door, and all tickets include a skate rental. Ages four and under are free. The Ice Rink is also available for private events for groups of 30 people or less for $275/hr. Proceeds from the Ice Rink at Holliday Park support the Holliday Park Foundation's efforts to ensure a safe, clean, green, and accessible Park for all.
