51st Annual Holiday Mart shopping event returns to Indiana State Fairgrounds
posted: Nov. 10, 2022

The Junior League of Indianapolis (JLI) unveils its 51st annual Holiday Mart shopping event on November 17. This year's event, which runs through November 20 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, will celebrate Indiana's youngest entrepreneurs and feature nearly 90 curated merchants and artisans offering unique home goods, jewelry, fashion and more. In addition to attracting vendors from around the country, Holiday Mart 2022 will highlight the JLI's latest commitment to supporting central Indiana children who are involved in the foster or kinship care system.
In line with the organization's current focus, JLI's renowned Holiday Mart decor will showcase a collection of winter-themed artwork from children who receive support from the Villages of Indiana - the state's largest not-for-profit child and family services agency. New this year, the JLI opened Holiday Mart to young proprietors (ages 5-17), as a way to introduce a new variety of vendors called Enchanting Entrepreneurs. By selling homemade goods, these young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to run their own businesses at Holiday Mart.
"Proceeds from Holiday Mart go toward our philanthropic focus of helping central Indiana children in foster or kinship care," said JLI president Stephanie Flittner. "That's why the launch of our Enchanting Entrepreneurs coincides perfectly with Mart. Thousands of shoppers will still receive a unique shopping experience while also giving back in a meaningful way."
The artwork that will be on display at Holiday Mart was submitted as part of an art contest that encouraged children who are served by The Villages to draw their perfect winter day. While dozens of creative and moving submissions were reviewed and will be displayed at the event, organizers selected artwork by Selah, age 10, as the contest winner. Selah's work will be featured prominently on the Holiday Mart printed program.
"I'm excited," Selah said because having art as an outlet is "calm and relaxing - kind of like freedom. I can just draw whatever."
