Unigov: Intended and Unintended Consequences
posted: Apr. 28, 2022
More than two generations ago, Indiana officials enacted a measure that created a bigger, powerful Indianapolis with unified city and county government and a significant increase in the city's tax base.
Yet, many new residents in Indianapolis, especially those younger than 50, have never heard of Unigov.
On May 15, a panel of officials will delve into Unigov and its intended and unintended consequences then and today.
The discussion will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 15 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 West 86th Street.
Panelists are former Lt. Gov John Mutz, former State Representative Ned Lamkin, Indianapolis City County Council President Vop Osili, Attorney and Civil Rights Activist Fay Williams and former IPS teacher and state legislator Billie Breaux.
Political analyst Abdul-Hakim Shabazz will moderate this rare opportunity to examine the dream and the reality of Unigov.
The event is presented by the Indiana Remembrance Coalition, in partnership with the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library and St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
There is no charge to attend the event, however, registration is encouraged. Go to
