You can bring the RiverWalk Trail to Broad Ripple!
posted: Aug. 19, 2021

For thirty years, the Broad Ripple community has advocated and planned for a paved trail to connect the Monon Trail with Broad Ripple Park. After receiving a Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership Grant from DPW in 2018, the BRVA and RiverWalk Task Force began reaching out to local donors to raise our half of the matching funds needed for this project.
Construction of the trail is estimated to cost approximately $1.1 million dollars. Thanks to community support, as of today, we have raised $485,000!
That leaves $65,000 left to raise to reach the full amount due in October 2021. We know with the support of our community that we can reach that goal. Can you help us get there? All donations, from $10 to larger amounts, are greatly appreciated and will help us bring the RiverWalk Trail to Broad Ripple.
Your donation to the Broad Ripple Village Association for RiverWalk is tax deductible, as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Safety, Accessibility, Recreation & Transportation
The RiverWalk trail will replace the current bike lanes on Broad Ripple Avenue with a 12' wide paved trail suitable for biking and walking. It will include a buffer between the trail and the street to both protect its users and provide additional greenspace. The trail will offer scenic views of the White River and provide a safe way to travel between Broad Ripple Park and the Monon Trail.
The trail's construction is planned to begin in Spring 2022, and we cannot wait!
After the trail's initial construction, we will continue our fundraising efforts so that we can install large permanent lights along the trail, similar to the light fixtures that we installed previously along the canal and the Monon. This lighting will extend the trail's hours of use, allowing for safe travels between destinations. We will also install benches and other amenities to allow for additional areas to rest and enjoy the trail, the White River, and Broad Ripple Village.
