Random Rippling - 5G zoning signs popping up around the Village
posted: Aug. 27, 2020
Orange signs indicating that a zoning variance has been filed with the City of Indianapolis are appearing all over the north side. This one is at 61st and Carrollton Avenue [K3 on
map].
The proposed project is to place several 5G communication towers throughout the north side neighborhoods. The variance describes the Verizon towers as being "47-foot wood and metal poles for small cell wireless communications facilities, with associated equipment and antennas within the right of way (only underground utilities permitted after January 1, 1973)".
The Broad Ripple Gazette received notices for 33 tower locations in and around the Broad Ripple area.
The scheduled hearing date downtown is listed as September 15, but that date will likely change as neighborhood associations file for continuances to be able to allow for discussions with Verizon.
