The final planning meeting for the 20-year plan of Broad Ripple Park was held at Broad Ripple High School on May 23rd, 2018. The final plan was revealed.
It was made clear that this is a 20-year plan for the park. There is no money set aside for implementing this plan. 4
The intent of the plan is to give purpose for appropriating and raising future funds. The plan is just the first step.
Some of the major changes in the plan include an new through road with distributed parking, a splash area and lazy river feature, a festival area with stage, improved river access, removal of recycling bins, and removal of the outdoor pool.
Fred Prazeau, partner at Context Design, the lead planning team for the park plan, shared a question he was asked "What happens to something like the (outdoor) pool, a program element that is in the park today? Let me give you a very clear answer on that. Indy Parks intent is that no program element that is in the park today goes away until the money and the design is there to replace it. So the pool that is there today will be there until there is money and design to replace it." Same with the boat ramp, recycling center, etc.
Many of the design displays are available to examine at the Broad Ripple Park family center or at www.broadrippleparkmasterplan.com
