The Underhills - Indy Folk Series
Saturday, February 20, 2016
615 W. 43rd St.
ticket prices below, doors 6:15/show 7:00
The intimate Indy Folks series is housed in the Unitarian Universalist Church. The concerts are in an intimate listening room venue featuring superb acoustics, art on the walls, and candles on the tables - a true folk series vibe. Light refreshments, including wine and beer, are available prior to the concert and during intermission.
The Underhills weave together guitars, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and bass to create an original sound that is evocative of old-time folk and bluegrass, while experimenting with new ideas and grooves not typically heard on these instruments. Inspired by the wooded hills of southern Indiana, this six-piece acoustic band combines rich harmonies and virtuosic instrumental ability to carve out their own niche in bluegrass music.
Tickets at the Door: Adults: $15; Students/Age 65 and up: $10; Age 12 and under: free.

Chad Mills Album Release Party
Saturday, February 20, 2016
Theatre of the Square
627 Massachusetts Ave.
$15 (includes a copy of the record), 7 - 10 PM
My love of Chad Mills' music is no secret. I wandered into Birdy's one evening and was lucky enough to hear him play - and it happened to be the album release show for 2 Places at Once.
Eight years later he is launching his ninth studio album. To celebrate this milestone, he is hosting an album release party at Theatre on Square. The evening promises to be full of music and storytelling, as Chad shares songs from the new album.
Chad Mills has been performing live music around the Central Indiana music scene for the last fifteen years - a good chunk of that in Broad Ripple. In 2015 the part-time troubadour performed 140 times! In December, Chad earned the first place finish in the One Voice, One Guitar competition hosted at Birdy's which featured some of the area's best songwriters.
The lineup for the evening is: 7 PM Doors open, 8 PM - Megan Hopkins featuring Dave Vogt, 8:45 pm - Chad Mills
Each ticket holder will receive a copy of Chad's new album when you arrive. I can't wait to get my hands (and ears) on a copy.

Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum open house
Friday, March 4, 2016
Wheeler Arts
1035 Sanders St, suite 202
free, all-ages, 7- 10 PM
The Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum (IMEM) has a new gallery and headquarters at Wheeler Arts in Fountain Square. You'll be able to tour the exhibit, meet the folks behind IMEM, hear music - Daryl Spurlock - and snack on some refreshments.
This is the first exhibit of this year for IMEM and the first for the new gallery space. Featured are rare artifacts, posters and collectibles from Indiana music, film and broadcasting.
IMEM also accepts donations of historical music, film, and broadcasting artifacts, along with monetary donations which will enable expanded exhibits and other programs and donations are tax deductible. I know I've accumulated stacks of music flyers and such over the years - now I have a reason to go through it all.

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
