Buzzing Around Town

Cadillac Scott & The Snakehandlers
Sunday, March 22, 2015
The Jazz Kitchen
5377 N. College Ave
21+,doors 5:00, show 6 - 9 PM, $10.00
The seven piece rhythm and blues band, Cadillac Scott & The Snakehandlers, will be shaking things up at The Jazz Kitchen. If you're a fan of The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, The Band, Van Morrison, and Chuck Berry you're in the right place.
The band is made up of a talented group of folks, Scott Parkhurst (vocals, harmonica, electric & slide guitar), Floyd Tucker (bass), Frank Dean (vocals, electric & acoustic guitars), Gary Woodworth (alto & tenor saxophone), Rex Stonecipher (keyboard), Steve Kennedy (drums), and the lovely LuAnn Lancton (vocals and percussion).
Don't forget The Jazz Kitchen's excellent menu, plan on having dinner while you're there.

NUVO 25th Anniversary Party
Saturday, March 28, 2015
Old National Centre: Deluxe/Deco rooms
502 N. New Jersey Street
21+, $12 advance, $15 at the door, 8 PM - midnight
NUVO Newsweekly is celebrating its 25th Anniversary with a big bash at the Old National Centre - and I'm pretty sure the dance floor will be bigger than the original NUVO offices in Broad Ripple.
The first issue was published on March 25, 1990 and Indiana's largest independent alternative news organization (I'm sure the Broad Ripple Gazette is a close second) will be celebrating in style. They will host Indy's hottest local DJs: Action Jackson, Kyle Long, Indiana Jones, Gabby Love, TopSpeed, Cool Hand Lex and MetroGnome from 8 p.m.-Midnight in Deluxe/Deco.
In addition to the music you can sample NUVO's 25th Anniversary Cocktail Contest winner, complimentary food from local eateries (including Broad Ripple favorites Just Pop-In and Yat's), and a special edition 25th Anniversary Sun King Beer.

Seth Walker with Kevin Anker
Wednesday, April 1, 2015
The Jazz Kitchen
5377 N. College Ave
21+, $15, 6 - 9 PM
No foolin', this will be a great show. I caught Seth Walker's show the last time he was in town and it was grand. Seth's sound is based in roots music with liberal dashes of blues and jazz folded in. His music is infectious and I found myself bopping my head along to the music. He'll be joined by Indianapolis' own Kevin Anker.
Plan on having dinner at the Jazz Kitchen while you're there - you won't be sorry!

Not-for-profit director by day, music writer by night, Nora Spitznogle reviews music that happened and previews music and events around Broad Ripple Village. Nora managed CATH Inc coffeehouse at 54th Street and College Avenue for seven years. During that time she hosted hundreds of local and touring musicians, both at the coffeehouse and her home. When CATH closed in 2004 and the music was no longer coming to her, she had to wander from her corner of Broad Ripple to see what is happening elsewhere. You can find her at Second Helpings during the work day, waitressing at the Red Key on Saturday nights and prowling Broad Ripple music venues the rest of the time.
