Something Old, Something New
My wine glass has been filled with some old favorites and new finds this new year.
La Marca Prosecco-sleek, savvy, fizzy and dry this Italian sparkler is affordable and delicious. I shared a bottle with friends the other night as we discussed the ever changing landscape of the Broad Ripple "village". Work is underway on several multi-story structures on the former sites of the VFW and Shell station. We wondered if each will hamper views and cast shadows on nearby outdoor restaurant patios along the Monon Trail. Or if the additional stress on the old Broad Ripple sewer system will be able to adjust. How will increased vehicle traffic mesh with pedestrians and bicyclists and 4-way stops? Looks like 2015 will be a year of discovery for the "village. I hope it is as pleasing as the La Marca.
2012 Columbia Winery Red Blend, Washington State-Smooth, easy drinking dry red blend of grapes including Cabernet Franc, a grape that Washington State growers do very well. Inviting aromas and rich full flavors of blackberry, black raspberry and cocoa. Easy to find, great value.
2012 Columbia Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington State-Another must have for those who like a full-bodied Cab but don't want to break the bank. Priced under $13 and widely available. Soft notes of smoke and black fruit on the nose followed by creamy flavors of black cherry, and hint of licorice.
Rocabela Vinho Verde Rose, Portugal-Dry pink wine for less than $5? Yep. Discovered at ALDI's and delighted in the aromas of rose petal and cherries followed by crisp clean but nicely saturating flavors of wild strawberry, cranberry and almond.
