We have a lot going on in the Ripple.

American Legion Post building sold, Post leader Ericksen passes

The shuttered American Legion Post #34 building is being sold (pending approval of the members). According to Bill Roberts of the Post, the Legion is looking for a new location as the current building was too large. Roberts said he could not disclose who the buyer is nor what the use will be for the building, which includes a bar and restaurant.

Sadly, Major (Retired) Gordon R. Ericksen, 66, Indianapolis, passed away January 20, 2014, He was an active member and leader of the American Legion Post #34 where he served as past commander for three years, and as finance officer.

Riverwalk closes, to re-open April 1 as the Willows Event Center

The Riverwalk is now the Willows Event Center at 6729 Westfield Boulevard has closed until April 1, 2014, when it will be re-named The Willows.

According to Mary Anne Hawkins, they are remodeling the facility including adding an outdoor wedding garden. A separate building, known as the Lodge, is also being re-done. The facility can hold 600 and is used for weddings and other special events. It is owned by Crystal Catering which also owns The Fountains in Carmel, Crane Bay, and the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

After extensive research, I finally was able to locate hospitals, doctors, and clinics that actually take the Health Care Exchange Insurance offered in Broad Ripple by the 2 providers in Marion County, MD Wise and Anthem.

Both insurance plans offer narrow networks of hospitals and doctors that differ from their regular offerings.

They do not offer any out-of-network coverage and out-of-state coverage is limited to emergencies only.

Holliday Park Trail Run set for March 22

Mark your calendars for the annual trail run at Holliday Park which is scheduled for March 22, 2014. This month we have the following events:

It won't be long before the skunk cabbage starts peeking through the snow. (The plant generates its own heat.)

Art Center opening reception set for February 14

A new student show opens February 14, 2014, at the Indianapolis Art Center.

A wine and cheese reception is scheduled for that night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Indianapolis Art center.

Also, mark your calendars for the Broad Ripple Art Fair which will run from May 17-May 18, 2014.
