Hello Summer!
One day it's 88 on the temperature and humidity index. Next it's rainy and 62. Welcome to summer in Indiana. Good idea to make sure your summer wine collection is as flexible as the forecast. Here are some EZ drinking, affordable wines available around the Indianapolis area.
Marques de Riscal Proximo, Rioja-It's big. It's bold. It's less than $11. Ripe aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry and hint of white pepper and cardamom. This could be your house BBQ wine for the summer.
Falesco, Sangiovese, Italy-A smooth Italian operator that also delivers bright cherry and plum fruit flavors. Fabulous with spaghetti, pizza, and great base for sangria.
Gran Verano Sauvignon Blanc, Chile-THE box for white wine lovers. Yes, I said BOX wine. Don't let that turn you away. Crisp, tangy, with notes of white grapefruit and lime. Each box equals 4 bottles. Can be found for $28 or less. Do the math...enjoy the refreshment. And remember box wine is PERFECT poolside, golf cart, picnic, or boat. NO glass!
Sula Chenin Blanc, India-My favorite offbeat exotic wine of the summer. The chenin blanc grape can be juiced into a dry or sweet style of wine. This one is in the middle. Notes of honey dew melon, citrus and touch of fresh white grape flavor. Delicious with grilled chicken, seafood and a great glass to have in hand while watching cricket....
Aveleda Vinho Verde, Portugal-This zippy, limey, fizzy white from Portugal is the perfect "chill it and swill it" bottle for post lawn mowing, bike riding, roller blading days.
Biltmore Christmas White, North Carolina-Christmas in July in this fruity, slightly sweet, totally delightful blend from the vintners at the North Carolina's Biltmore Estate. They made a limited amount in December and if you've been a good boy or girl you might be able to find a bottle at a local wine shoppe. Ho Ho Ho!
