The Indianapolis Department of Public Works recently held a series of open houses at St. Paul's Episcopal Church to present the latest US Army Corps of Engineers options for completing the White River flood control wall.

The original wall proposal met public opposition because it would not protect the residents of Rocky Ripple and it would obscure the canal from Westfield Boulevard. As a result, five proposals were generated, ranging in estimated costs from 14.3 to 50.3 million dollars.

The Corps has extended the public comment period until August 31, 2012. A public comment meeting is scheduled for August 23, 2012, at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 North Meridian Street. An open house is from 5-6:45 p.m., with the public hearing at 7 p.m. Following the comment period the Corps will choose a path for the wall. The project is not yet funded, so there is no schedule for the wall's construction.
