Poetic Thoughts - The Moon According to John - by C.W. Pruitt II

The Moon According to John
John was a fellow bartender at Ted's Hideaway on Miami South Beach in 1996. He was an ex-Marine who lived his life by the Tao Te Ching. John's big thing was the moon. He would talk enthusiastically and at length on the power of the moon. Quite a cool guy, actually.
I thought of John as I wrote the poem below. On the path to Kroger/Glendale one night the moon blared at me from behind. It took some of my breath, but left me impressed.
Moonar Impact
the Moon
snapped my head back
and i looked
straight at her
she beamed and glowed
as if to say
forcefully
I am the Moon!
I control the tides!
I demanded acknowledgment.
You may now continue
your grocery shopping.
