Old Town of Broad Ripple Meeting Minutes #130

The Town of Broad Ripple was incorporated in 1894, and started holding regular meetings at that time. In each issue, I will print my transcription of the old Town of Broad Ripple meeting minutes. These are taken from the original, hand-written minutes that contain many spelling errors. I have transcribed all the records as they were entered, including errors. I will make some corrections to the text in brackets [ ]. The original minutes books are at the Indiana State Archives at 6440 E. 30th St.

Here is the one-hundred thirtieth installment:

Street grading authorized

Sept 2 1902
Broad of trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple met in regular session all members present. The following bills were allowed
Geo Melick $30.75
John A. Brenneman $2.70
J. Thomas F. Smith paid his ______ liquor license an Aug 9th $150.00
Petition read petitioning the Board to have the street car company lower their tracks along Shelby Street instead of filling the street to the present height of tracks.
Motion carried that Dr. R.C. Light be authorized to procure a surveyor at his expense to establish a grade on Shelby Street under the supervision of the Board.
Board adjourned to meet Sept 9th to consider the matter of water franchise and street grading.

Board of Trustees of the town of Board Ripple met in regular session all members present. Minutes of Sept 2nd read and approved.

Nov 4th 1902
The Board of Trustees of the Town of Broad Ripple met at I.U. White's Livery Barn. Account of the election being held in the town hall and on regular motion the Board adjourned to meet Thursday night Nov. 6th 1902.

Nov 6th 1902
Continuation of the meeting of Nov 4th all members present. The minutes of Oct 7th read and approved.
The following bills were allowed and orders drawn for the respective amounts.
Geo. Melick $30.50
Henry Whitinger $19.10
J.W. Bates $10
On motion of I.U. White the profile and specification dated Oct 10th 1902 furnished by the town Surveyor Harvey B. Fatout establishing the grade for Shelby Street from the first street east of Morgan Street, west to Light Avenue and south on Light Ave. 200 ft. as per the profile on file in their office and as a part of these minutes. Was accepted and adopted and the Clerk instructed to notify the Broad Ripple Traction Co. to grade and gravel Shelby St according to the said profile and specifications.
On motion of I.U. White the tax levey for 1903 was placed at 30 cents on the $100. 15 cents for general tax and 15 cents for road purposes.
