Class of '51 donates to BRHS Alumni Association

The first annual meeting of the Broad Ripple High School Alumni Association was held on October 22 at Brugge Brasserie. The Board of Directors consists of 13 alumni, spanning graduating years of 1962 through 2004.

Some milestones from the first year:
Becoming incorporated July 6, 2010, and filing and receiving 501(c)(3) status to allow for tax deductions for donors
Designing a website (www.brhsalumni.org) and Facebook page
Designing the logo and being able to offer spirit ware to members
Developing the "Rockets Rock" business sponsorship program
Participating in Homecoming 2010 and 2011, with a float in the parade and a booth at the game
Sponsoring new banners in the gym to honor the 10 BRHS Indiana All Stars in Basketball
Holding four Dining to Donate events at the Broad Ripple Applebee's restaurant- fundraisers for the "Spirit of Steven Jamison" scholarship
Awarding the first "Spirit of Steven Jamison" scholarship at Ripple Round Up 2010, a total of $1300, to winner, Chelsea Jamison and to honorable mention winners, Sabrena Rose and Armond Patterson.
Also announced at the meeting was a cash donation from the class of 1951. Here is the story behind that donation:
The 1951 graduating class of Broad Ripple High School enjoyed many reunions starting with the 25th, continuing with reunions every five years thereafter, and ending with their 60th in July, 2011. Some of the same classmates worked on the committees every time. After the 60th reunion the committee realized some funds were not spent and gave some thought as to what to do with this remaining money. It was the committee's decision to donate this balance of $1,771.48 to the Broad Ripple High School Alumni Association to help financially in their future endeavors. Their check was presented to Jamie Poynter, representing the BRHS Alumni Association, on October 20, 2011.
