New parking meter heads are planned to be installed into the existing meter stands in the Broad Ripple area.
According to ParkIndy, LLC, "New rates and hours of operations will be implemented March 28, 2011. Hourly parking meter rates will be adjusted for the first time in 35 years, increasing 25 cents to $1 per hour. The days and hours of operation will be extended. The new hours will be Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m."
The new meters are described as, "Convenient. Motorists can pay using nickels, dimes, quarters, or with credit cards. As long as there are not signs posted restricting parking, motorists can even pre-purchase time two hours in advance of a parking meters operational hours.
"Green. The new parking meters are environmentally friendly. They are solar-powered and reduce the number of batteries recycled annually.
"Safe. All credit card transactions are secure and all data is encrypted. The parking meters are compliant with Payment Card Industry Security Standards. This set of requirements ensures that companies that process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.
"Efficient. New meters wirelessly notify collection and maintenance staff when they need collection or are broken."
