The annual meeting of the Broad Ripple Village Association (BRVA) was held on October 19, 2010, at the Indianapolis Art Center. The annual meeting is the last of the quarterly meetings and is when the board elections take place. Seven ran for the five open spots on the board. Crickets were all that could be heard before the five names were read from the voting results (Not because it was so quiet in the meeting room, but because the room seemed to be full of loud crickets!). The voting results: Bridget Carson, Jim Holland, Philip Lavoie, Elizabeth Marshall, and John Yantis.
Recognitions were presented to retiring board members Mike Seufert, Cathy Adler, and Diane Seybert. The BRVA also recognized exiting BRVA President Elizabeth Marshall.

Henry Castor, Community Resource Liaison for IMPD, gave an update of crime in the area. Castor announced that the crime stats show that for the period May through October there has been almost a 25% decrease in crime for North District in 2010. During the Q&A section we learned that there is a leash law for cats, and that traffic has the right-of-way at the Monon Trail crossing on Broad Ripple Avenue. Castor explained that pedestrians on the trail must stop and make sure that it is clear for them to cross Broad Ripple Avenue.
Next, City-County Councillor and Council President Ryan Vaughn presented an update of the parking plan of the City of Indianapolis. Vaughn said that about 90% of the changes incorporated into the updated parking plan for the city were driven from the discussions with the BRVA. [I will explain more about the updated plan in an upcoming issue of the Gazette. -Alan] Vaughn further said that construction on a parking garage in Broad Ripple could begin in 2011.
The next quarterly meeting of the BRVA will be January 18, 2011, at 7 pm at the Indianapolis Art Center.
