"The idea for MakeUp By Sparkle started as a personal interest in cosmetics and beauty products in my teens. This led to doing makeup for friends and attending makeup classes. Eventually, I had the opportunity to work for a major cosmetics brand for many years and began to do freelance work. My customers were working moms, executives, celebrities and community leaders who all wanted to look beautiful in business and social settings. Hearing their beauty challenges inspired me to develop my own brand of cosmetics and services, MakeUp By Sparkle," she explained.
"Basically, I just started with a mail-order business. Investing my own money, I had local and national clientele who wanted to place orders," she said. Ms. Myers astutely built up her company's cash flow and kept low inventory levels of select beauty products to meet customer needs. She utilized her Information Technology experience to brush up her website, www.makeupbysparkle.com, where her 4-color seasonal and holiday cosmetic collection is currently available. Studio appointments are required and can be made by calling 829-0420. Free parking is available in addition to an initial beauty consultation.
Ms. Myers earned her bachelor's degree from Marian College in business administration and her MBA from Anderson University. She has been profiled in the Indianapolis Recorder and Indianapolis Star.
Her cosmetics studio not only specializes in weddings and exclusive events, but also can transform any woman's appearance. "We cater to clients of all ages and have a diverse, multi-cultural customer base. We treat customers like family. I work with brides, models and women in many lines of work. They each have color and category needs that could not be resolved by a single makeup line until now. The quality and depth of our new MBS cosmetology portfolio exists to satisfy the beauty challenges of all women. We provide personal beauty consultations from basic to advanced clients who want a different look," Ms. Myers added.
"Our customers choose MakeUp By Sparkle because of our flawless wedding makeup services and our full line of cosmetics which includes a colorful collection of makeup for eyes, lips, face and more. Our airbrush artistry, prom makeup, personal consultations and beauty education are also very popular with our clientele," she said.
Ms. Myers' client base is as diverse as her cosmetic line. "The MBS brand caters to every demographic. Our average customer tends to be the affluent, professional woman who wants a personal and professional beauty experience. Many of our customers are tired of going to a beauty counter in a mall and patronize the MBS brand because we are different from our peers. We offer an upscale experience where the client is the center of attention as our makeup artist amplifies your beauty," she emphasized.
Seeking a location for her studio, Ms. Myers explained, "I was walking around Broad Ripple, meeting owners of different businesses, hair salons and boutiques. They had heard of me before, but had never met me. I worked in corporate America for 14 years in Information Technology and also worked as a free-lance make-up artist. As a lifelong Indianapolis resident, beautiful Broad Ripple Village has always generated a distinct buzz when it comes to fashion, style and beauty. This spring, Broad Ripple got even more beautiful with the opening of our flagship location. This tranquil oasis perfectly captures the personality of the MBS brand with its contemporary style, clean lines and vintage accents. When customers enter the studio, they can leave their busy lifestyles behind and receive a celebrity experience from our makeup artists," she noted.

Ms. Myers gave a former dental office a makeover of its own. "I completely gutted the pre-existing space and got glass mirrors from a recycling company," she said. A fireplace now enclosed with her studio sign is across from a redecorated water heater flanking shelves that display her line of beauty products. The end result is a contemporary cosmetics studio reminiscent of what one could find in Manhattan's Soho District.
She reflected on the rewards of her work: "The clear benefit is working closely with the community who trusts us to be involved with personal and important occasions such as weddings, photography and special events. I am confident that launching MakeUp By Sparkle in Broad Ripple Village will help me to achieve my goals of always being involved in the community and giving back to organizations that support the environment and self esteem in young women. I invite our neighbors to visit to receive the beautiful, flawless, irresistible experience that we offer," she mentioned.
Her move into the area also brought related businesses as well. Wedding and Event Planner Kim King Smith (www.kimkingsmithevents.com) and Abstract Nails and Wellness Nail Salon owner Ronieka LaShann, (www.abstractnails.com) operate their companies nearby. Ms. Myers has also partnered with Niche Boutique proprietor Erica Lundeen (www.shopnicheboutique.com), who is a client and a friend. They are part of a revived retail renaissance in the community.
MBS will donate a percentage of their "Pink" cosmetics sales during October and November for Breast Cancer Research to help raise awareness about the disease and to financially assist in efforts to find a cure.
They hosted the summer event, "Sexy in the City," featuring free makeovers, product demonstrations and complementary samples for attendees. Ms. Myers worked with SweeTies Gourmet Dessert (www.sweetiesgt.com) owners Tiffany & Rosevelt Colvin, who sponsored a dessert table at the event.
Customer beauty product questions can be answered at info@makeupbysparkle.com or by calling the studio. MBS has generated a following of nearly 1,000 followers on their Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/pages/MAKEUP-BY-SPARKLE/169116032008.
Sparkle Myers' cosmetic studio is destined to shine brightly for her multi-cultural clientele in and beyond Broad Ripple Village.
