Dr. Bryan Bingham describes the chiropractic services he provides to patients.
"We offer manual (hands-on) chiropractic along with light force instrument adjustments. We have a full-time massage therapist on staff and we provide exercise prescription and instruction in-house. We have decompression therapy (more information is at http://compassindy.com/specializing-in/spinal-decompression). We have digital x-rays on-site and provide digital copies to all of our patients. Using a combination of physical rehabilitation with chiropractic, our big focus is on lifestyle modification and my focus is on helping people get better," he said.
It has become more common for chiropractic offices to include a massage therapist. Amy Coats worked as a massage therapist with a Lincoln Park (Chicago) chiropractor prior to joining Dr. Bingham's staff. Since graduating from massage school, she has learned additional techniques that include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Prenatal, Trigger Point and Lymph Drainage Massage.
Whitney Hilder helps assure that patient needs are addressed at Compass Chiropractic. Answering questions about scheduling and billing, she has worked in a variety of health-related offices.
Dr. Bingham's interest in becoming a chiropractor gradually evolved: "Growing up, my mother was a nurse practitioner and I was a very sick kid. . . earaches, sinus infections, asthma, etc. My health issues started my interest in health and wellness. I was in pre-med, not sure exactly what I wanted to do when a friend suggested chiropractic. I had never been to a chiropractor, so I started researching the field and meeting with chiropractors. It was the excitement and passion that these chiropractors had that really sparked my interest. The more I learned about chiropractic, I realized that it was in line with my personal beliefs regarding health and wellness," he explained. He successfully combines his mother's compassion for patients and his father's entrepreneurial spirit in his practice.
Though patients visit for various reasons, Dr. Bingham mentioned, "By far, the most common conditions that I see are neck, back pain and headaches. I do have a number of people who get decompression for disc herniations, facet syndromes, disc degeneration, etc." An avid runner, he treats some chiropractic-related sports injuries in patients.
A Terre Haute native, Dr. Bingham graduated from Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon. His career began there as an associate doctor in an established chiropractic clinic where he worked for almost three years. "As an associate chiropractor, I was able to learn from a doctor with many years in the profession. This experience gave me a chance to try many different chiropractic methods and determine which methods best suited my patients," he noted.
Dr. Bingham eventually returned to Indiana. "I opened my office [at 5420 North College Avenue, Suite 101] in January of 2009. I had been practicing in Portland, Oregon since 2002. My wife and I had a baby and decided to move to Indy to be closer to family. We were looking for a progressive neighborhood that provided a community feel and the ability to walk to restaurants and shops. After looking for over eight months, I found my current location," he said.
Compass Chiropractic hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are closed Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Their number is 257-2800. While patient testimonials can be read at their website, compassindy.com, videos can be seen under the "What is Chiropractic?" link demonstrating more.
Patients can find a new direction in health at Compass Chiropractic as Dr. Bingham surmised; "Chiropractic has been a huge part of my life for many years. I have seen what is possible when a patient is in the hands of a skilled compassionate chiropractor and I feel fortunate to be able to offer this service to my fellow man."
