February is either a very happy month as love gets celebrated, or it's a very sad month as some realize that love doesn't exist for them the way they want it to. One book in the Bible, 1st Corinthians chapter 13, is known as the love chapter. It doesn't speak specifically to romantic love although it is quoted in most marriage ceremonies, but instead speaks to the definition of love.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." These words are just a portion of the chapter, and even in this small context of Paul's words, the challenge is tremendous.

This Valentine's Day as we celebrate love, why don't we try to step it up a notch. Instead of just celebrating the romantic form of love, let's be challenged to love the kind of love Paul writes about. There are people around us, young and old, who need a touch of human kindness. This month of February make an effort to love with all you have to everyone God puts in your path. "Love never fails."
