On The Road with Wine:
I had the pleasure of pouring wine for the grand opening of Sara Morris Photography last Thursday (Our esteemed editor was there taking pictures too!) Here are some of the wines served and enjoyed by the many attending:
Columbelle White-crisp dry white; blend of Ugni Blanc and Colombard; floral nose and soft flavors of white grapefruit
Shine Riesling-smooth, off dry white; lovely aromas and flavors of honeysuckle, tangerine and white peach.
Columbelle Red-smooth rich dry red; blend of Tannat and Merlot; Big berry aromas and flavors.
Ken Forester Petit Pinotage-Offspring of Pinot Noir and Cinsault from South Africa, this smooth dry red has a touch of spice and juicy strawberry, plum aromas and flavors.
Cristalino Brut Cava-a sparkling wine from Spain made from Chardonnay and Macabeo; results in juicy dry tropical fruit flavors.
Cristalino Brut Rose Cava-sparkling Spanish wine made from pinot noir grapes; light, dry red with wild strawberry, raspberry flavors and nice small bubbles.
I also poured a birthday party for some Irvington residents. Here was their menu:
Ironhorse Wedding Cuvee-Sparkling California blend of chardonnay and pinot noir; scrumptious!
Terra Antiga Vinho Verde-dry white from Portugal; soft citrus notes.
Philip Bernhard Pinot Noir-medium bodied elegant dry red from Germany.
Grilos-rich, bold, blend of red grapes makes a mouthful of dry red wine from Portugal.
Canella Blood Orange Mimosa-Italian prosecco (sparkling wine) blended with REAL blood orange juice. A gulper!
Powers Muscat Canelli-softly sweet white from Washington with lush aromas and flavors of mango, tangerine.
Quinta do Infantado White Port-Make a "Port Tonic"- 2 parts white port, 2 parts tonic water, in tall glass with ice and squeeze a lime over all. Perfect aperitif.
Chocovine-Adult chocolate milk! Addicting blend of red wine, chocolate and cream from Holland.
OH-and I poured a wedding reception too:
Ken Forester Petit Chenin Blanc-crisp dry white from South Africa; lovely citrus and honeydew melon notes.
Helfrich Riesling-off dry white with succulent nose and flavors of white peach, apricot and mandarin orange.
Marquee GSM-Dry, rich blend of grenache, syrah and mouvedre from Australia. Spicy, black berry, cherry flavors.
You can find ALL of these wines (many under $15) at many local wine shoppes.
Labor Day Wines:
Great weekend for box wines. Just like screw cap wines, box wines are MUCH better than those from years gone by.
Three I highly recommend:
Badger Mountain Pure White, Washington-semi dry white blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
Powers Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington-smooth, easy drinking, dry red with lovely aromas and flavors of black cherry and vanilla.
Macatella, Spain-Tempranillo and Grenache blend, big berry flavors, chewy tannins in this easy drinking dry red, great with burgers or ribs.
Each box contains the equivalent of 4 bottles of wine and most boxes are less than $25 bucks. You do the math....
