The State Fair is almost over, but the fun in August is not done yet. If you still have a trip planned to the Fair grounds check out the great Art exhibitions they put together each year in the exhibition halls. Many of the fair goers make the trip to the horse barns and visit the concessions, but tend to forget we have an entire building full of adult and children's artwork, not to be missed out on.
If you are heading down to the cultural districts this weekend and looking for something different to do, don't miss out on one of these four exhibitions if you are in the area.
Mass Ave
If you have not made it out to the new Athenaeum Art Space, then take the time. Showing at the Art Space, "Convergence" until August 28th, 2009. Experience the offerings of Indianapolis artists Priya Poulsen and Shirah Eliashiv. On First Fridays as an added bonus bring the kids and leave them at the Y (located in the Athenaeum) where they can play while you enjoy the rest of the Mass Ave offerings. The Stutz Building
Over at the Stutz Building (1028 N Capitol Avenue, Suite B100), Heartland Printworks is hosting "Recent Prints" by Robert Eagerton. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. heartlandprintworks@gmail.com
Fountain Square
Showing at Big Car is Cindy Hinant's "Heart Attack". This exhibit is open through the end of August 2009 with hours by appointment at (317) 450.6630. Recent works by Hinant that include drawings and collaborative work. It explores themes of love, loss, obsession, and desire. Hinant is a mixed media visual artist living in Indianapolis. White River State Park
Over at the Indianapolis Zoo they have a great exhibit, "Naturally Inspired Paint Out". Selected artists from around Indiana will have works on display in the Schaefer Rotunda at the White River Gardens. On August 27th, 2009, all artwork created at the zoo will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the zoo. Information on reserving your spot at the reception can be found at www.indyzoo.com
