On Monday, July 20, 2009, the Village lost some 60+ year old shade trees along Ferguson Avenue. John Hill, owner of businesses nearby questioned the tree company when he discovered the trees coming down. The only information from Green Arbor was that they received two orders for tree removal from the City of Indianapolis. One order for the four trees along the parking lot of Editions Limited Art Gallery at 65th and Ferguson, and another for one tree in front of Belladonna Salon next door.

The Gazette contacted the City to find out why these seemingly healthy mature trees were removed and was told by Robert Vane, Deputy Chief of Staff/Communications Director, Office of Mayor Greg Ballard, "I am working on finding the answer for you...thank you for bringing this to my attention."

There was a call to the City in 2007 asking them to look at the tree in front of Belladonna. This was a result of a tree expert seeing the tree and saying that it was dying and would someday fall causing damage. Without warning, the truck showed up on Monday and removed four trees along Ferguson.

The BRVA (Broad Ripple Village Association) was disappointed to see the trees come down. BRVA president Elizabeth Marshall said the City agreed to a stop work order thanks to Ryan Vaughn. Editions Limited thinks the stumps could be turned into sculptures. That might ease the pain while looking into the possibility of replacing the trees.
