Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen
posted: Dec. 05, 2008

Life's Ripples header

It is that time of year when tradition plays a big role in our lives. Tradition dictates what we eat on Thanksgiving, where we eat it, how to decorate for Christmas, who we spend the holidays with, and the list could go on and on. Tradition can be a very comforting and important, especially in stressful times such as these. We may feel uncertain and anxious about the holidays, but doing the same things in the same ways can help to calm us down and restore a sense of normalcy.
We often incorporate new traditions that tie into our old ones, and this year my church family is stepping out and trying something new. Our congregation will be doing a live nativity and carol event on December 6th. It is something new for us, but a tradition that has been in existence over the last 2000 years. It is a gift we wanted to give the community for Christmas. We want to offer a calm reminder in a season that can be lonely and depressing that God does care, and He sends a love beyond our comprehension by sending His son Jesus.
