Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen

Life's Ripples header

The reason my wife is a big fan of Columbus Day is because she currently works in a bank and she gets a long weekend out of celebrating that day. I myself am not a big fan of how the history books portray him. The Indians were here before the vikings, and the vikings were here before Columbus. However, it took courage to convince others that the world was not flat and to set out to prove it. Columbus took off on a voyage, stepped out on faith, and made history.
We live in a large country filled with people who speak different languages, have different colored skin, and have traveled many miles to get here. There is no such thing as a favored people from God's perspective. He loves us all equally, and He expects us to love as He does.
It is hard to believe in this day and age that religious persecution still takes place. There are still people being forced out of their homes and into refugee camps. We recently helped sponsor a family from Thailand. They arrived in the states with what they could jam into two suitcases. They came here solely on faith believing that God would provide for them.
Can you remember the last time that you counted solely on God for something? Some things in life are so big that we just have to step out in faith believing God delivers on His promises. As we face uncertain times in our economic and political unrest let us not forget that God hasn't changed. He is still loving and caring for His people, and that will never change.
