Alyeska Resort of Girdwood, Alaska
Girdwood, Alska is a town of 2,000 which is located within the northernmost rain forest on Earth. This makes for much rain and many mosquitoes in summer. The town is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. On bright clear days, the mountains seem to exude pristine joy. When rain is near, clouds move over the mountains for an ever changing hazy and mystical view. This is the view of Girdwood's mountains that I prefer.
One of those mountains is Mt. Alyeska, which is home to Alyeska Resort. Many Girdwoodians anxiously anticipate winter in order to ski.
Girdwood is a ski resort town, which means that Alyeska pushes the local economy as well as providing residents with skiing opportunities. My buddy Yo Gutwein (former Broad Ripplean) works as a bartender at Alyeska Resort.

Abstract James and I were given an extensive tour of Alyeska by Bill Emmert (former Broad Rippleite). This was my first such encounter with a ski resort and I was quite impressed. Bill introduced us to many of his friends who worked at the resort. We also dropped in to see Yo before we took the long flights back home.
Bill said that rooms run about $180 in season and $120 off-season. Now this is $180 and $120 more than I can afford. But if you have the money, it might be a nice trip before the U.S. economy goes further down the pooper.
