Kim from Perk Up invited me to come see Larry Jones who had his montage art at her Cornell Street coffee shop. Larry had recently completed a Broad Ripple Village montage.
Larry put together his first montage in 1977. He remembers his brother making one back in the sixties.

One of Larry's first montages was of the Pacers and Larry Bird. He took it to work and co-workers loved it and encouraged him to pursue a career in montage art.
Through word of mouth and setting up booths at craft fairs across the state, Larry's art grew in popularity.
Larry showed me a piece he did of the 2004 Microbrewers Fest. "I always see a lot of my friends at the fest. I put them along the top, and John [Hill of the Broad Ripple Brew Pub] with other brewers. It was a lot of fun."
Larry receives commissions for large pieces from wedding and reunion planners and from corporate meeting organizers. These artworks can capture an event and become a souvenir for attendees. He had several examples of poster-sized montages showing every aspect of a wedding or a family reunion. "It's kind of like finding Waldo. Every time you look at it you find something different."
Subject of the montages include Marvel comic heroes, IU, Notre Dame, Purdue, Dale Earnhart, Colts, Pacers, downtown Indianapolis, and so many more. He is working on one commemorating John Hill's birthday. He hopes to do a piece on the Indianapolis 500 drivers and their cars soon.
Unframed prints run from $40 to $80, while commissioned works start at $350. Magnets are also available for as little as $10.
Look for one of Larry's art pieces when you are out. They are hung in several establishments around town.
