To start off the fall season, the Rocky Ripple Community Association is presenting its 8th Annual Rocky Ripple Festival to the outdoor-loving public. Taking place at Hohlt Park on September 29th, 2007, this festival is sure to entertain with live concerts, local and regional art displays, as well as numerous activities for children.

Providing a creative outlet for north-side artists of all sorts, this event is not only a fun and interesting experience for frequent festival-goers, but a unique opportunity for expressive minds to show of their work within this eclectic neighborhood as well.

By funding the Rocky Ripple Parks Endowment, this festival benefits the individual artists and returns all of the profit to better Rocky Ripple's four scenic parks - Hohlt, Peace, Wapahani, and Fountain - all of which lie around Butler University's campus. These parks not only provide pleasant outdoor areas to spend time within, but also a way to signify Rocky Ripple as a definitive and promising community.

Both kids and adults will find the festival an overall enjoyable experience. While the kids can have their faces painted by neighborhood volunteers, or spin their own pottery at a potter's wheel, adults can enjoy local bands displaying many different genres scheduled throughout the day.

Artists with varying creative expressions will be exhibiting their work and putting it up for sale for anyone willing to pay an affordable price.

Among these performers and visual artists will be a company of professional jugglers and magicians, as well as the always present and necessary bounce tent and playground for those small children who want to be more social, and not be with their parents.

When it comes to refreshments and food to satisfy the festival-goer's hunger, the Rocky Ripple Community Association comes in with delicious and reasonably-priced food, prepared and served during the entire run of the festival.

If there are those of you over 21 who would not mind getting something to drink, the highly reputed Broad Ripple Brew Pub will be serving beer and wine.

Mandy Redmond, the coordinator of the festival, as well as Vice President of the Rocky Ripple Community Association, is grateful to those who go to this festival, in that they provide the community with a notoriety for creativity, as well as having their money go to help the public impression regarding the neighborhood itself.

"Our parks endowment provides us with funding to maintain our parks and green spaces within the town of Rocky Ripple," Ms. Redmond states, "- we do all of this without city, state or federal funding. With funds raised this year, we will be contributing toward much needed mulch and playground equipment repair for the kids area within Hohlt Park."

Not only is this festival a conglomeration of creative minds and entertaining spectacles for the whole family, it is also a charitable event that supports Rocky Ripple's image, as well as the image of the Butler campus.

Free to everyone, this festival runs from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on a day which hopes to be enjoyable and cloudless. As the festival season is reaching its peak, there is no better time to appreciate the outdoors and the creative minds of Indianapolis than in the wooded and open-minded neighborhood of Rocky Ripple.
