Poetic Thoughts - April Fools, 2007/Agony in the Garden - by C.W. Pruitt II
posted: Sept. 21, 2007
On a cold April day I ran into Greg Foote in the produce section of Kroger Glendale. It was good to see Greg, but we were both chilly from the never-ending winter.
I asked Greg if he would send me a poem for the Gazette. He obliged. The poem was seasonally appropriate:
April Fools, 2007 or
Agony in the Garden
Six days ago, Spring Came sailing in
Slammed on the brakes.
Full bloom. Botticelli's Flora-
Blind-sided by the north wind.
Spinach, peas,
Broccoli, cabbage,
Nightly covered from the frost.
Fall's witch hazel,
New blossomed and budded, Barely hanging in.
Fish pond hard topped again.
April always fools.
