Well hello again!
Ok, so I know what you are thinking, "Isn't this the old coffee girl? What's she doing back?" I left Indianapolis in March 2006 to relocate to Golden, Colorado and I absolutely loved it there (who thinks mountains are ugly is my question), but after much consideration I decided to return to Indianapolis this September in order to finish college.
Which brings me to my next point, this bar review. In actuality, beer or wine is considered a specialty drink - much like coffee - and one thing I learned from living in Colorado is an appreciation for fine beer. Let's face it: Golden, Colorado is the home of Coors, not to mention endless other local breweries throughout the state. Good beer is a staple there (and if you are ever west of the Mississippi, find the nearest tavern and have yourself a Fat Tire beer - tell the barkeep to just put it on my tab). I will rate these bars on a 5 Pint system (think 5 stars). Therefore, I am here to weed the good bars from the bad bars!
So the next time you are in Broad Ripple and want a nice drink before dinner, shopping, or feeding the ducks, stop by Canal Point Grill and Bar (it is in the old Bazbeaux house). First, I dig the nautical setting! Anytime I can feel like a pirate on a ship I am at home. However, it is what they are serving up behind the bar that delights me. Canal Point has Blue Moon on tap (please, I beg you drink it with an orange slice) not to mention other fine ales like Newcastle in bottles. Canal Point features regular drink specials through the week: Wednesdays and Sundays enjoy $10 Margarita pitchers or pay $4 for an individual Marg. On Thursdays, the special is Blue Moon: get a pitcher for $7 or pay $3 for a pint. There is a nice plasma TV in the bar, so do not worry about missing the game or any other favorite show. Natalie, the bartender, mixed me up a tasty Blueberry Martini. This is not the norm for me, but I felt like living on the edge. I would recommend the drink to anyone who does not like the traditional martini but still wants something "sophisticated". Canal Point is definitely worth a visit! I am giving it 4 out of 5 Pints.
