posted: Nov. 17, 2006
Broad Ripple High School's Marching Rockets claimed the Grand Champion's trophy at the 2006 Bands of America/IPS Marching Band Competition. The competition, held on November 8 at the RCA Dome, featured bands from all Indianapolis Public Schools' high schools.
Band director Kelly D. Hershey's Rockets also received trophies for Best Overall Music Performance and Best Overall General Effect. Under the direction of Drum Major Alissa Davis and Band Captain Jared Littleton, the Marching Rockets performed a medley of Motown hits including "I Want You Back," "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough."
Adding kick to the soulful performance was the Rockettes Dance Team. Directors Kayla Pauley and Megan Pentecost choreographed and Dance Team Captains Syearra Liggins and Mahogany Turner led the lively routine.
