Manning makes appearance in Broad Ripple - By Ashley Plummer
posted: Nov. 17, 2006
On November 6, 2006, Mastercard unveiled a new commercial featuring Peyton Manning in a reversed role: cheering on the people and workers of his hometown, Indianapolis.
Numerous locations in Indianapolis were scouted for the on-site shooting of the commercial. Broad Ripple's locally owned coffee shop, Hubbard & Craven's, was one of the chosen places.
"It was really awesome that Hubbard & Cravens was chosen," said Annie Burns, manager at the 49th and Pennsylvania location. "I think it is great that they chose a local franchise rather than a national one."
Fellow worker Katie Garvey agreed with Burns, and mentioned the fact that Manning had the "shiniest hair she had ever seen" on a human being.
"That's the impression I got from him, but the crew was awesome," Garvey said. "They turned our little corner of Broad Ripple into a television studio, moved everything around, and then put it right back where it belonged. They were great."
While in the coffee shop, Manning is shown ordering a latté. When the giant coffee machine goes haywire and blasts the barista with steam, Manning says: "Shake it off Johnny! Rub some dirt on it."
The spot ends with the signature "There are some things money can't buy..." and then shows Manning in Hubbard & Cravens again, asking if his latte is decaf.
Look for the commercial to be aired for the remainder of football season.
