Life's Ripples from Broad Ripple United Methodist Church by Rev. Timothy Rasmussen

Life's Ripples header

Some years ago I took a church group to the Four Corners area to lead a Bible School for Navajo children. The experience was as much a blessing for those of us who went as it was for the children.
Our group was encouraged to be open to see what we called "God Moments". These were often small events where God's presence could be observed. "God Moments" were seen in the relationships that were built with the children, the beauty around us, and the strengthening of our relationship with God. Toward the end of the trip we realized that the "God Moments" had really mounted up. It was so powerful to be acutely aware of God's presence, but we had no idea that the best was yet to come.
I had planned all week to have a communion service at the Grand Canyon, which was to be our last stop before heading home. We spent the day enjoying the sights, and I found the perfect place for our service. There was a large rock that jutted out over the canyon that would easily hold the 30 of us. We had quite a moving time sharing communion together in such an awesome place. After the service we just sat there in silence for awhile watching the canyon. I had some communion bread left over, so I threw it over the rim of the canyon. Out of nowhere a raven swooped down and caught the bread in its talons and flew off. We all just sat there in awe of what we had seen.
My first thought was the story of God sending the ravens to feel Elijah.
As we were walking back to the bus one of the teenage girls on the trip said, "that was such a.....a.....," my wife replied, "God Moment", and the girl said with tears in her eyes "yeah". I believe God is much more present than we are aware. Try to be observant as you go through your day and see how many "God Moments" are available to you.
