Random Rippling - latte art competition
posted: Jul. 14, 2006
I always try to cover as much art in Broad Ripple as I can. When I read in Heidi's column that two of my favorites were being combined - coffee and art - I knew where I would be on Saturday morning. After snapping some shots at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market, I headed to Hubbard and Cravens, which is located just south of the post office on Carrollton Avenue, to watch the latte art competition. Three baristas competed - Sarah, Mark, and Katie. Three judges, Brian, Mike, and Joe, tallied their results on official coffee competition judging forms.
The judges, Brian, Chris, and Joe, contemplate the artistic merits of each latte.
Sarah passes her latte etching to the judges.
Mark
Mark watches as Katie pours the foam onto the latte.
This style of latte art is called etching. It is made with a combination of pouring a design and then pulling the tip of a thermometer or a spoon across the surface.
